Default Some electrical questions

My '96 DI has a lot of switches that don't work. My cruise for one. I have replaced all the vaccum hoses so is this a switch problem or something mechanical I haven't looked at yet? Also my fog lights don't work. I won't be keeping them as I am going to remove the plastic air dam but if the switch is good I want to use it for my aux lights. Can i just snip the wires before the harness and tie them together to bypass the switch and see if the lights are good? I am not an electrical guru so I thought I would ask those who are. Also my rear work light switch lights up (on the instrument cluster, I believe that is what someone on here said that switch was for) but no lights come on anywhere inside or outside the vehicle. Which rear light is it supposed to work? Thanks.

Have you checked if the bulbs are good? rear work light switch is supposed to light the upper part of the tail lights. I believe you can snip the wires to use you fog light switch, but you have to use a relay in your wiring because you will blow your switch if you don't.

I once read someone asked a Disco owner how he knows which switch does what at night, since every switch is in an unusual place. The answer: I don't, but it doesn't really matter...most of them don't work anyway.

I had the same problem with all my dash switches. turns out that they were dirty. pulled them out removed the tiny bulbs and pulled the switch apart used real fine sand paper and a dab of dielectric grease on it. they work like a charm. also the rear fog lights only turn on with the head lights on.

Thanks for the tip on cleaning. I figured out the deal with fog lights only working with the head lights on after I posted. Of course the switch quit working again lol. I will work on cleaning the switches next week. Thanks again.
