Default Spark plugs holes stripped

I changed my spark plugs yesterday. First time I have done this to my 02 Disco, it has the 4.0.

All of the plugs felt seized as i took them out.
I had to wrench them the entire way out.

Either threads were already bad, or I ruined 2 of them removing plugs.I now have 2 that are puffing air out of head.It still seems to run okay, which seems strange?

I tapped holes very slow and careful, but soft metal is shot. I need some info on what to do.

Is there a repair kit for this? Or will I have to remove heads to repair?

And is there a temporary fix other than JB weld that wont ruin heads?

And one more question, Can i use the rig like this, or will this cause more damage?

Appreciate any help,

Thanks

I had that issue on my 03...went to Pep Boys and bought a kit to repair this...worked well, no issues since. Did it with the head still on.

Any auto store has a tool that will re-thread the holes. There is also something called a heli-coil that is used to fix stripped spark plug holes. I would check with a mechanic first before I started messing with them. I had one stripped and got it kind of fixed with the tool from the auto parts store. I finally got it permanently fixed when I did the head gaskets. Took the heads to a machine shop. Personally, if they are blowing air I wouldn't drive the truck too much.

I had a buddy who had a buggered up plug hole. The plug was holding on by a thread. He drove it for a while thinking as long as it was snugged down it was fine. One day cruising down the beltway he blew a plug through his hood. Ripped the boot on the plug wire clean off.

I don't think I'd run it like that.

I have tried tapping, didnt help. So I will try Heli-coil. Can this be done with the head installed? Or do i have to pull heads off? Which would I would rather not.

Thanks

You can install while the heads are still on you just have to take your time and make sure you blow out any metal shavings form the cylinder before your done. I would turn one full turn and them back it out. Repeat that until your all the way in.

Any updates? How did you over come rethreading at the correct angle?
