Just makes more noise for not much gain in the TD5 LOL..............Never use it, but ALWAYS use it in manual mode when offroad

All sport mode is doing is holding your gears longer, so your trans will hold 1st longer than it would in normal mode to get you into the engines power band before upshifting.
It does this with all the gears, so instead of shifting into 4th gear at 45mph it wont shift into 4th until 50mph, it does nothing to hurt or speed up wear on your trans, all it is doing is wasting gas.
Sport mode on a 5,000lbs brick with a underpowered engine is a oxymoron, look up oxymoron in the dictionary and you will find a pic of a DII with the sport mode engaged.

In contrast, however, sounds like MANUAL mode is a great feature that should be used any time the truck is in low gear (CDL locked or not).

GO AWAY

There is actually a movement starting here in the US for clean diesels, I am so stoked but yet so disapointed because we are so damn far behind on this.
VW advertises the Jetta TDI at 52mpg.
Audi is also introducing TDI's here, yes I know they are owned by VW, but thats not the point.

Hi,

Thanks for all the feedback! I am going to check it all out on Saturday when I have time to go through it all.

I'm not really worried about not having the sport mode available I am more worried that there could be something happening with my transmission that might get worse.

My truck is a 2000 SD with 99,000+ miles on it and it runs great, throws no codes but has a few minor issues like the cruise control keeps quitting (have replaces all hoses several times), sport mode issue and 6-disc CD changer keeps getting stuck!

Other than that I love it, I have had it since it had 17,000 on it and plan to keep it for as long as it will run.

Paint is wearing off the roof (black) from baking in the sun here all summer, rarely gets a bath but it is always taken care of mechanically.

I have replaced head gaskets twice, first time at 72,000 miles and again at 95,000. I did the job the second time apparantly the guy that did the first ones reused all the bolts so I suspect that led to the need for the second set.

Again thanks for all the feedback and I will let you know what I find with the sport mode issue.
