I ordered a new drive shaft from Tom Woods. Probably should have put it on and tested to see if the noise was fixed before draining the diff but I wasn't thinking and was really curious to see how the drain plug looked. Quite a bit of metal if you ask me.
Im going to change the fluid put the new drive shaft on and see what happens.

Aye, I’d set your expectations at needing to replace the diff. It’s really not a difficult job at all.
Is the centering ball of the cardon joint greaseable? I had a similar noise that started as a squeak and evolved into minor shudder at takeoff accompanied by a sphincter-tightening shriek at speed, 12 hours from home. I removed the front axle and the sound went away. Further inspection revealed that the centering ball was as dry as a chip. It was not greaseable but I was able to lube it with spray lithium grease to the point that the noise went away. I drove on it until I got a custom front driveshaft in a parts truck that was fully greaseable and now I keep it as a backup.

Got my fingers crossed this is it. Tom Woods fully greaseable front driveshaft shipped today so I'll install it when it comes and report back.
