Default SRS light on after seat swap

In my last post, I noted that I had some seat swtich wierdness, but in addition, I now discover that the SRS light is on. I had the system scanned and was told that this is an non-reversable fault code, and that it's present in both seats.

So: any ideas??

The donor vehicle was a '99 SE which had what looked like a minor impact (front left corner crunched, but not badly, although the air bags did deploy), the seats are now in an '02 SD, if that is of any help.

Thanks a ton!

Yeah your problem is in the seat belt latches/anchors/wireharness.

Didn't occur to me to do that... Thought the ones on the seats would be fine.

Ok, final word on this. I dug through the RAVE, the issue is simple. The seatbelt pre-tensioner is a pyrotechnic device deployed at the same time as the air bags. It's a one-trip device, and once it's blown, you have to replace it.

The SRS DCU detects that it's blown, and since that's a fault in the SRS system, sends signal to light the light.

So, as noted above, the fix is to swap that piece from the original seats. Or pay $250 a side to put in new pieces from the dealer. Not.

Thanks everyone.

I didnt think about the pretensioners going off and setting the light.
Glad you got it figured out.
Do the swap and you should be good.
