Default it started, but barely.

I went out for coffee this morning (okay, afternoon) and when getting back in to head home I had a hell of a time getting started. the engine turned over just fine and 'wanted' to catch but i had to sit and crank it for some time. It finally started and here I am at home, but i wanted to hit up a coupel trails this weekend and didnt want to leave myself stranded.

I've searched the forums (here and elsewhere) but havent come across someone else with this issue, only lots of mentions of the 'click of death'.

Nothing unusual, or impending disaster?

You did and I didn't notice, sorry. I would look first at the fuel filter, then the fuel relay and lastly the pump. Common problem on the D1's. The fuel fiters are common at any auto parts store, try changing it out. The fuel pump relay as the pump ages starts cutting out, may need to be changed. The fuel pump also has a check valve that can stick allowing the stored fuel pressure in the rail to drop to zero causing the engine to just crank until the pump can get enough pressure back to the system.
There is a place to start.
