2000 Disco II barely idles after new fuel pump and sender
Just replaced fuel pump and sender unit in my 2000 Disco II and the vehicle still runs extremely rough... seems as if I'm somehow losing pressure in fuel system but don't know how... Vehicle had been sitting for about 6 yrs. Checked the tank for foul fuel and purchased new ignition coils just in case... Any hints on how to make sure new pump and sender are fine... Trying not to replace coils immediately if not necessary... Thanks in advance for any help...
There is a fuel pressure test point (schraeder valve - like a tire valve) under the back driver's side corner of the intake. If you can get a flex hose gauge or such on it you can check for fuel pressure. If you replaced the entire unit in the fuel tank you got fuel filter and regulator at the same time (unless you just replaced the pump part itself). Fuel pressure for a D2 is 50 PSI spec. Pumps runs for 2 seconds when key turned on. See item 2 on drawing, it is from the rear of vehicle looking forward. Get rid of stale gasoline (in a safe environmentally responsible manner, don't re-use in your prized John Deere zero turn mower, Honda outboard, or another vehicle).

I really appreciate the help and your previous help with my 2001 disco II with the fuse problem last week right before the hurricane... Will keep you posted on how it goes...
Thanks again

we are happy to have you post issues on the forum and add to the knowledge base for those that will be infected with un-controlled Rover Rash in future years. Rover Rash can strike females and males alike, and those with ambition, drive, and dreams just know that their mechanical prowess can overcome any shortcoming on that basket case Rover. In a few years, high schoolers will be buying a beat up LR4 to fix up as a first car.
6 year old gas will kill your engine and it's performance. The fuel should have been drained.
When you say you replaced the fuel pump, are we correct in believing you replaced the entire pump assembly, was there anything wrong with the truck before you let it sit, do you have any fault code numbers if so what are they?

You can't run on 6 year old gas.
You need to pull out the fuel pump again.
Pull all that old gas out.
As much as you can.
Get a few gallons - put it into the hole where the sender goes if that is easier than in thru the fuel filler.
then put the fuel pump back in.
then go to the gas station and take it up to 3/4 tank.
Put in 2 cans of good injection cleaner.
Make sure the coolant is drained and renewed too.
And you MUST immediately drain and put new OIL into it.
ALL fluids - need changed after 6 years sitting.
Transmission, differentials.
you got work to do.
Then drive it all round.
