Default Steering box removal

04 Disco2
What is the best way to remove the steering box shaft?
I am removing the box to replace all seals.
I have all lines disconnected, and box is unbolted from frame.
At the top of the steering shaft there is a clamp where the shaft can move up and down, and one threaded fastener, with some strange looking head. A clip on the other side.
I could not thread in a bolt to lock the bottom shaft in place either, as there is a broken stud in it now.
I have the service manaul, and have been reading it.
Any advice on getting this thing out would be appreciated.
I will try and add pics now

clip came off of the flat T headed/shaped pin in above picture.
in the back/bottom, not the threaded one in front.

4. Remove 3 bolts securing intermediate shaft
and universal joint.
5. Push intermediate shaft upwards, release and
remove universal joint.
Third bolt at top end of shaft and removal should provide the needed clearance if shaft and joints not seized and slide freely.

That's the problem.
Shaft is tight, and I can't loosen it.
Top/3rd fastener is that strange headed thing in the picture. I can't grab it with anything, and it doesn't look like it has been damaged. That it's made that way, like it's not meant to come out. Strange.

Try soaking in PB Blaster, wait and giving some taps?

What's on the other side of the top coupling? May be a nut for stud rather than bolt per your photo. Headed thing not supposed to turn. If all else fails grind/cut those fasteners and replace with two bolts/nuts.

Sixpack, the quickest way is a grenade or explosive, but, that's not too helpful. It is difficult to access the pas box be it a V8 or TD5 but it pays to follow the RAVE comic guidance as setting up is helpful also. Good luck, have fun and wear gloves as knuckles take a while to heal up.
