Steering Gear Adjustment?
I seem to be getting a little slop in my steerig gear box. The front end is tight but the steering wheel has about 1.5in drift form side to side when driving straight. I have adjusted slack out of steering gears before only in big military trucks. Has anyone ever done this procedure on a D2? Or D1 assuming the gear box is the same..
no, no lift. i did however pull the airbox looking for the adjustment screws, assuming there were. i am used to a small allen bolt inside of a locking nut, which i did no tsee on the D2 steering gear box. I had the G/F wiggle the wheel while i observed and the only place i can find any play outside of firing the truck up is just past the u-joint in the steering shaft. Now the u-joint is tight and whatever falls next in the shaft is covered, i would assume its like a roto-flex only its covered by a rivited aluminum cover, so i cant tell for sure. The part is like 385 bucks, bc you have to but the whole shaft from the firewall to the steering gear box.
I adjusted my D1, but haven't touched a D2. Mine was right on top, clear as day. There is also a second adjust on the bottom side.
Maybe someone else on here has a D2 that has messed with it..
