OK guys I took the old steering gear box out today and the U joint attached to it and decided to just replace them both (about $630 total for both with tax and overnight shipping on the u joint), I did have a few questions about this though. how much fluid does the whole power steering system hold? and what kind of fluid should I use? (I am thinking tranny fluid)

The DI power steering system uses Dexron III, and it will take as much as it needs.
(I think 2 quarts total, it will be in your owners manual as well as in the RAVE manual, look under fluids and/or capacities)
EDIT:Also on AutoZones web site they have a "spec" section, enter yr, make, model and it will list specs for your car.

Thanks spike! and just thought I would throw in (since your willing to learn) my experience with this so far, the gear box was tricky to get out, the biggest problem as I knew from the beginning would be removing the lower bar from the pitman arm (that was a major PITA) other than that 6 - 3/4' bolts removed the box and then 2 smaller bolts removed the Ujoint, the box came up and out from the top with alot of different angles and a few hoses pulled back (also had to remove the reservoir as the hoses on it were in the way) and hopefully installation will be the reverse minus the lower steering link bar, then a few adjustments as needed and should be back on the road in a day or two!!! it only took about 2 hours to get it all out with a little help from my brother.
