The pin that locks the selector is not releasing (or even trying).
Any other common problems that cause this beyond the brake switch?

 

Didn't you have a problem getting your key out? (It may have been a different person) If so then you may have damaged the ignition switch.

 

Yes, that was I, but the theory is doubtful. Ignition works properly.

 

1)Does the gear indicator on the Dash also say "P"

2)Does the truck start?

3)Are you still having trouble getting the t-case to go into Hi?

4) have you done any repairs recently?

Yes it starts

T-case is in H now, it was stiff from apparently never being used (bought from original owner 93Kmile of suburban use).

Um, yeah, lots. Complete engine rebuild, drive shaft rebuild(s).
