If you need to hit your starter to get it going, it's pretty much done. Get a new one installed as soon as you can.

 

How hard is it to replace the starter? Can I do it myself in the driveway?
I am ok mechanically.......

 

Iirc it's 2 bolts holding it in and two bolts for pos and neg. I've changed starters in some oft other cars. Just looks more cramped on this one.

After tapping mine with the hammer I planned on replacing it. I don't want to be out to dinner and have the car not start lol

 

Nope, that and running out of gas are wearing thin on women. I don't think they believe it anymore...

 

First things first.
Get a battery charger and let it charge over night.
If the amp draw gets down to 4 to 6 amps then the battery is charged and good.
Then you can try all this other stuff as suggested above.
