Stuck in Park
I have an 01 Disco II with 130K miles. No prior transmission work. Occasionally when I try to get it out of Park, the shifter won't budge. If I release the brake pedal and then press it down again, it will usually release the shift lever. Is this in the brake system or the shift lever? And, any idea of the cost to fix it?
Buy 2 and keep one in the glove box as a spare.
It will take you a small flat blade screw driver and 2 mins to replace it.

You can also buy it locally at a autoparts store or the dealer.
It attaches to the back of the brake pedal.

Yeah, just pry up the plastic housing around your shifter with a knife or a screwdriver. There's a small metal pin keeping the shifter from coming out of park, just push it out of the way and shift out. Go straight home or to a rover shop though, because if the switch is out you won't have brake lights, and nothing's going to ruin your day like getting rear-ended over a 30 dollar part!
I do not know.
I would imagine just the switch, thats how it is on a DI and how it was on my wifes Volvo.
But on her Volvo even though we had no brake lights we could still shift out of park.

But again, I have NO idea.
