I'm a noob, an IT geek. I am not a mechanic. The Disco is my first foray into mechanical things, but its fun and I learned a lot. With the bumper it wasn't that hard. I did have to call Chris Fristch and have him walk me through it first. I tried 2 coatings. First one was durabak which did not perform as well as I hoped. So I ended up removing it and putting on spray-can herculiner. I also used this for my roof. Good luck!
Ok, so the bumper saga continues. I just received a text from the towing company stating that they sourced a new front bumper w/o fog lights. The problem? Apparently the bumper has blemishes (noticed prior to shipping) and it's the only one they have in stock until late April. Here are photos of the bumper in question:
The company that has this OEM bumper in stock has offered the towing company a 10% discount and stated that if the bumper is painted it won't be noticed. I have other work that can be done on the Rover in the interim if I wait for an unblemished one to be shipped toward the end of April. I'm sure the towing company will do whatever I want.. either have it painted or wait for one that is pristine. To me, the 'blemishes' look more like debris or dust. I was told that they are not deep scratches or grooves, but rather rubbing that occurred during the incoming shipment.
Thoughts? Does anyone have a painted black bumper? Plasti-dip or back to black? Am I settling? hahaha... I'm sure I'm going to be given some grief by all the nay-sayers of plastic bumpers Maybe I should have gone for steel.
