Sunroof motor repair
So I tackled something yesterday that seemed rather daunting but it was actually fairly easy. Call me stupid but I wanted to get my rear sunroof working. I am lucky enough to have a parts Rover so I pulled one of the motors off of it and took it apart. The reason it wasn't working was because of corrosion on the magnet. A wire brush bit and my drill cleaned it up nicely. I put some grease on the bottom nipple and put it all back together. Getting the rear motor out was a challenge but I can tell you it can be done without removing the headliner. The trick is to take out the thin metal bar that spans the two plastic mounts for the trim that is holding the rear sunroof switch. This allows the headliner to give enough to reach in there and loosen the bolts. Pull out the old motor and do everything in reverse to get the new one in there. The whole thing took me about 2 hours and it works like it should. I have 2 motors that stopped working so I am going to take those apart and fix them. That way I have spares for the future. I can shoot a video of the repair process if anyone needs to see how to do it.
Now it is time to tackle the power steering pump. After that I am going to either replace the entire sound system or do a 3" lift. I will probably do the stereo because I found a 10" Android head unit that will fit in there. Not that anyone needs a tablet for a head unit but it just sounds interesting to me.
