have a dealer maintained '04 w/ 65k miles. I purchased it w/ 62k miles. According to service records the sunroofs were serviced on more than one occassion. Seemed fine at purchase but sure enough about a thousand miles in- both my sunroofs will now occassionaly hesitate before opening, then a very loud CLACK when they finally pop up. They slide along the tracks just fine, the problem is onlywhen opening. They also shut kinda loud but that may just be the way it is? I've read other posts and my problem seems a bit unique as they slide fine where everyone else w/ opening and closing problems also seems to have sliding problems, and no one seemed to have that noise issue.
The noise is just like the damn noise now coming from my passenger door window when it occassionaly gets off track near the closed position- CLACK!!
What is it with LR windows? Apparently problems started on this '04 only 15k miles in or so. Any help is greatly appreciated.

 

Make sure that the rails are lubed.

There is a lube just for sunroofs, I have some for my other car and it is a tube of about 8 ozs and cost me $25.
I lube the rails about once a year but I use my sunroofs
alot.

There will be other lube that can be used but from what I have seen is that lube made for sunroofs will not attract dirt and is water proof.

 

Clean and lube sun roofs a couple times a year or be prepared to buy new replacements.

thanks! Do you know the brand of lube I should buy and will it be avail at an LR dealership or maybe even Kragen or Pep Boys? Also what might cause that loud CLACK sound in the sunroofs at opening?

 

Any good clean and then a lube, I use a synthetic grease.
If yours is snapping you may have let it go too long.
Open it up, clean all the old grease and dirt off the tracks and lifts, grease it and hope.

 

Yup, like Mike said, you have to start somewhere. If cleaning and lubing the tracks doesnt work then its on to step two.
