Ok, Thank you to everyone who voted, responded, or both!
Based on the votes, member input, and my wife (who liked the sunroofs- is it pronounced "sunrooves"?) I am keeping the sunroofs functioning, ordering the Steve Parker metal drain hose kits and refitting everything back together. Here's my next question: My sunroofs would operate "magically" at times. Meaning, we would get in and turn the key and sometimes the front sunroof would open all by itself. But the button would be non responsive. Sometimes the back one opens up an inch or two by itself. Is this an Sunroof ECU issue? And if so, where is the best place to buy a new one. I have the headliner out and would rather only do that job once per vehicle per lifetime lifetime if possible.
Further information for remove/reinstall of the sunroofs and all things associated is in the April 2014 issue of Land Rover Monthly. The article is excellent and takes you step by step through the process, starts on page 182.
Picture of the sealant I used. Took about 3 tubes.
As to the magic opening, though I have never experienced this, possibly the Sunroof ECU. You should check out "Roverland Parts" in Tampa FL. https://www.roverlandparts.com/
They have a good reputation and offer good, used parts. They list it for $35.00. Worth a try.
NON SUNROOFS ARE NOW WORTH 200% more than sunroof models
Are they really that much better? I guess I lucked into one without the sunroofs. Didn't really want them, especially if I plan on adding a roof rack down the line, but I see the water intrusion problem is pretty infamous.
Sunroofs are nice if you are sleeping in the back to keep the condensation down.
When I re-did mine I looked at the design and figured that the truck needs to be parked flat or nose down to prevent leaks even with a fully functioning drain system. There are drains only at the front of the sunroof pan.
