Default Switching from 275/65R18s KO2s to 265/75R16s - Thoughts on Wildpeak or Open Country?

I am currently running at OME 2" HD lft with a 1" spacer in the rear and 275/65R18s KO2s. I am looking to switch to a set of 16" wheels to give me more sidewall when airing down. The KO2s have been great for off-roading in dry rocky terrain. However, the KOs seems to be a challenge trying to balanced, even with RoadForce balancing.

Switching to the 275/65R16" will give me an additional 1" sidewall while keeping the tire just as tall. I need the SnowFlake designation as I run over the mountain passes during the winter (same mountain passes that you see in the Highway to Hell TV series). This leaves me with AT tires versus MT tires.

I did my research in this forum. Both Alex M and Nashvegas complimented the WildPeak's performance and treadwear. Has anyone run WildPeak ATW3s or the Open Country (either AT3, CT or RTs) in this tire size? Or are there other makes that you have used in this size? Thoughts please? Thanks!

Well obviously you've already seen my opinion so I won't say a ton, but they're my favorite AT. Great in snow, great tread life, I'm on both my second and third sets (two separate trucks). The second set especially has lived a really long hard life. They've been on four trucks and ... Six sets of rims? Had em five years now. They've got at least 50k miles on them if not closer to 60k and they've still got life left in them.

Love my Wildpeaks. Have had them on my truck for years and put a set on the Rover now.

I have ATW3's on my suburban and intended to put them on the Disco when I switched out the hideous 22" wheels for 16". But, I found a deal on 16" wheels with the Open Country AT3's already mounted in this size. I got the tires, brand new with new tire whiskers still present and a late '21 date code mounted and balanced on Disco wheels for $500. I had Toyo's on my Ram 3500 and liked them, but they only made it about 45K miles. Not enough miles on the Disco to offer a solid opinion pro or con.

If it were not for a amazing deal I got on the Toyo's I would have ATW3's. However, I am not sure you can go wrong with either one.

I really enjoyed the wildpeaks when I ran them on 18s. They didn't have the obscure skinny 33 I wanted to run on 16s when I switched so I ended up switching to an MT. I'd have no hesitation going with a wildpeak or toyo though. Both are good tires so I'd likely pick whichever was cheaper at the time. Wildpeaks had gotten pretty expensive when I was shopping for tires last but I think Toyos may have still been higher.

They look like a really good choice based upon Tire Rack's review: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=281

I have 275/65R16 KO2’s on mine with no balancing issues. I live in Kelowna and regularly drive the Coquihalla and Connector.

I've had a few sets of KO2s with no issues balancing but I'd happily switch to the wildpeaks. Have 2-3 friends running them and I've been impressed both on and off road and they seem to wear better than the KO2s.

I just mounted a set of Wildpeaks and really like them. I haven't run them in snow or mud but they work well in heavy rain.
