What oil are you guys using in your transfer case?

I live in Denver, where it can easily hit over 100 during the day, but when I'm camping in the mountains can still drop to 32F in August.

Is there a way to "top off" tcase oil? Or do you have to drain it all the way and then put in the recommended amount.. (7 quarts if I remember right)..

 

I've topped off before, but that was only temporary. No issues. Half inch fill plug.

 

I guess my actual question is.. How do you know when the oil is 'topped off?' Is it like the transmission fluid where a small bead of oil comes out the top? I have filled it before and replaced all the gaskets but there still seems to be a little leak (like 5 drops a day)..

 

Yes, just open the fill plug, if you get a bead coming out it's full. If not, just fill until you do.
