TD5 with Massive oil leak
Hi everyone, your help here will be much appreciated.
The car is approaching 300,000 KMS
We have an 03 S2 TD5 Auto discovery with an oil leak like no other, the car will drop up to 1 litre of oil in 20 KMs, and yes we are in Australia so its right and drive...
Here is some history;-
Like many TD5's the head has been removed and reconditioned recently, this was due to the usual overheating problems when the car is under load....
Also the car had done about 400 KMS after the head change, before the oil leak started...
This is 100% definitely engine oil as the problem has been discovered after driving about 150 kms and it was dangerously low on oil and lucky to make it that far !
Here are the details of the leak...
This is on the inlet manifold side (australian Driver side), the leak covers the alternator a lot, gets onto the fan/belts and splatters oil all over the place.
The hoses for that pump on the front of the alterunator are intact.
After pressure cleaning the engine we cannot see any oil drip when it idles.
When we drive it and it obviously comes under load the engine on the manifold is soaking in oil and you cant see where it came from (within 5 minutes)

Don't have one of these to compare to, but...
Perhaps you drive for shorter times and check for leak. Like 30 seconds or 1 minute.
Lots of things to leak, including seals and gaskets and hoses and fittings and o-rings.... and the fan blows it everywhere. Might have to slip off the fan belt and make a short test run, not so long that you overheat it.

Also you could buy or borrow a snake camera its a handheld device has a 3 or 4 foot line with camera on the end and the little monitor is on the other end with this you could drive and view at the same time! Problem solved
