TF 2" Lift and Tires
Hi all,
Newbie to the forum but not to Rovers. This is my 4th one, previously owned 2 88's and a 101, currently in a 2003 Disco II so all the fancy gadgets are a bit odd in my world.
So to cut to the chase, I have been reading the forums regarding lift kits and the Terrafirma 2" Coil kit seems to be the way to go. Easy, no muss no fuss lift. has anyone installed one of these and do the corrected radius arms need to be fitted?
I have also seen the 2" TF 2" Coil Spacers but I am assuming that 4" of lift is just going to make the brick like center of gravity too high an prone to wanting to fall over. Add the roof rack and cargo to the mix and I'm big trouble I suppose.
Additionally, what is the largest tire one of you would recommend for the 18" stock rim. I really don't feel like replacing them but would like to fit a larger tire with a more aggressive tread.

So far I have no complaints. I went with the TerraFirma Heavy Duty 2" lift kit. Installed it myself for the most part. I also fitted the TF steering damper and Brittpart tie rod end heavy duty kit. But for just a 2" lift you do not need all the extra stuff and your radius arms are fine. Anything over 2" will require some modifications to the rest of the vehicle. For the wheels you should consider down sizeing to 16's. Thats what I did. Im not a tire person so I cant say anything about sizing. Good luck.
I have the 2" lift kit, purchased from Lucky 8. Installed the extended stainless steel brake lines, but in hindsight I don't think they were necessary. I also fitted 265/75R16 tires, which I think fill out the wheel wells really well (say that 3 times fast). They don't rub, though admittedly I do little off road riding. Can't comment on 18 inch rims, though many on the forums suggest swapping to 16" wheels.
I haven't fitted the offset radius arms - not sure they're necessary but have considered them when I have an extra $400 floating around. Did not use any spacers - I think they would cause you grief by requiring brake lines, ABS lines, new radius arms, etc...

I am running the OME heavy duty front medium duty rear with D1 perch plates. along with the OME steeringdampner, 265/75/16 tires on steel nato wheels. No need to do the castor corrected radius arms. I did put in the longer SS brake lines more as an update over the original rubber lines. All of what you are asking is really a matter of what you are really planning on doing with this vehicle. I love the OME product line but do not know anything about TF other than what I have heard which is a mixed bag. but once again are you building this to go around the world or thru the woods to grandmas house. I would make sure that you have your engine, coolant, front driveshaft and all fluids squared away before you start dropping money on upgrades. My 2 cents.
I run 265/60r18 (30.5in) BFG RuggedTerrains. They were the biggest I could fit stock height.
I just installed the 2in HD TF on Christmas and I love it. When my current tires wear out I probably won't go bigger than a 265/65r18 (31.6ish in), but that's only because I hate the look of WAY too big of tires on a vehicle. I'd much rather have empty wheel well so when I pull a heavy trailer I'm not worried about hitting a bump and rubbing. Also I use mine to commute mostly so mpg plays a little role in my decisions.
Lastly I've noticed my steering wheel is a bit crooked after adding the lift so it probably wouldn't hurt to add an adjustable panhard rod, but that's all I think I will add as of now.

Romp might be premature this year. Current funding allows for the lift. Tires will likely be this summer. Then there is the question of skid plates and a winch. I am accepting donations of parts or cash.
