And there goes a head gasket
[align=left]So, I've put about 1 extra quart over the past 2500 miles into my '04 Disco II, approaching 60k miles. Kept searching, everything looked dry as a bone as far as gaskets. Today I crawl under and see oil dripping down the oil filter, looks like it's coming from the right side head gasket above the filter. Shall I take her in for the gasket replacement now or just feed a little oil for the next few thousand miles. How fast have others head gaskets worsened in the past?

If it is coming down the filter, check your oil pressure switch first. I thought head gasket at first, but it was tough to get back there and actually see. I changed the valve cover gasket with not much change. I changed the switch, and all is good. Whew. When these fail, they can fail bad...also, the fan blows the oil all over, so it looks like it is coming from all over.
This might not be it, but the switch took 5 mins to change and cost under $20.

Okay, so I cleaned the bottom side of the motor off, took the undercarriage cover off and started it up. It actually looks like it coming from the oil pan gasket, not the head gasket. I tightened a few of the bolts around the area to see if that helps. In terms of replacing, you think it's better to have it done for 100$ deductible on my warranty or do it myself? Cost for parts if I do it?
Do it yourself, if it is the oil pan gasket, easy to do.
Do you have any other leaks, anywhere on your truck, if so let the dealer do it and cover all your leaks for one ded. if your policy covers replacing leaking gaskets.

So Mike, last question. Done other repairs but never replaced gaskets, now the rover guess I'd better get used to it. Anything I need in the way of sealant or anything between the pan and gasket, or just clean it off and slap the new one one? Any torque settings at all? doesn't seem like it would matter for the oil pan.
Thanks
