Default Is there some unwritten rule...

...that Rovers have to leak something, no matter what? lol

The coolant pipe from the lower intake to the upper radiator hose assembly... either the O-ring or the pipe. I ordered both, just in case.

And why is that pipe so expensive?! Is it made from unobtanium or something?

As an old saying for Series Rovers, "If it's not leaking, it's empty"

You have forgotten what your driving, they are not cheap to repair.
Have you ever replaced your upper hose, where is the bleed screw located, if on a tee, that is good, if molded into the rubber hose, you should replace it also because of the high failure rate.

Trust me, my memory is as sharp as a tack. Just sucks that the same part is 28 quid from vendors in the UK, versus $105 from the only vender that sells the part new here in the US.

I also ordered the upper hose set for the reason you mentioned. $60 for the 3 upper hoses and a specialized T fitting isn't terrible.
