Default Third brake light unstuck

It’s been miserably hot here in central VA the past couple of weeks. I think that, in part due to heat, my third brake light gave way and is now hanging from its wiring harness. I guess the heat or sunlight either caused the epoxy (or whatever) to become brittle, or too soft. For those who haven’t had this issue, the inner assembly is glued in two places to the rear glass, then the cover is secured with two screws. I tried two different glues to hold in place, and neither worked. Anyone had a similar problem, or recommend a fix? I’m thinking of trying the same epoxy used for mounting rear view mirrors, though this doesn’t appear to be what was used originally (if indeed it was original fastener).

Thanks,

DRW

Maybe try some of the double-sided adhesive material used for attaching plastic trim?

Mine did the same thing a couple years ago. I tried some cheap (Harbor Freight) epoxy, but it gave way after a couple months. Went through that 2 or 3 times. I bought some Gorilla epoxy a couple weeks ago and tried that, so far it's holding. I've also tried some velcro strips, that was a big failure. If the Gorilla epoxy fails, I'll try the 3M trim adhesive.

Thanks - I think I’ll try the 3M trim stuff!
