Nice looking truck. Did previous owner reveal any issues? Have you signed up for a mycarfax.com account (free), you can look up service history.

I strongly recommend an aluminum tank. There are a couple of other pieces in the cooling system that have AL replacements available. Cars4x4.com is one source to look at. There are others too.
Thanks Snow. I already purchased a plastic tank not knowing about the issues with them. Gonna run with this one for now. Probably get an AL one with associated plumbing and eventually swap it out. Looks like Cars4x4 isn’t around anymore.

Thanks Extinct. I got a Carfax on it after I bought it. Just a couple notables on it. Could’ve had an overheating incident. Also sat for 2.5 years before the kid I bought it from got it. He only put 300 miles on it in his 6 months ownership.

Looks like they were chasing oil leaks maybe. PCV mod done? If not, do it asap. Does not affect your ticking but ticking is not urgent nor fatal and no one likes working on an oily motor. As it is new to you, you should also read the stickies and all my blog post on my site.

Sorry, carrs4x4.com. That'll work better.

Thanks again guys. Great write ups. Been studying them. Ordered the pcv for the upgrade. Test drove yesterday; groaning/ grinding from front end. Kept it under 10 mph for a block. Gonna remove cv joints etc and investigate. Changed out the front differential fluid last week, no metal or anything. Thinking cv or axle or both.

New to you D2 you don't know the sounds yet. Steering box groans a little when turning static. If it groans or roars going around a corner that is a bad hub.

Thanks Extinct. It’s definitely a nasty metal grinding sound. I hear the power steering groan too.

It’s been awhile since I posted. Been down with a lower back issue but healing. I did replace the front hub assemblies and cv/ axles. Still have the grinding metal noise so I got a used front differential to install. Hopefully get to it soon. I know I’m throwing parts at it but so far all these parts I’m replacing look original so it’s necessary I think.
The previous owner had the gearbox replaced and there’s a vacant electrical connector on the side of the replacement box ( pictured). The original has a plug in it. Wondering what it’s for. Thanks

Looks like a temperature sensor.
