Default Tire Size....

I know the factory size of a 96 disco is 235/70/16. What other sizes can we do? What is the widest we can go all around? I sell used tires and have a few in stockso I am wondering.

245/75/16 is a standard up size. I think that 255/75 is the largest that you can go, not sure though.

The 255/75R16 is a rare size if it available at all. 245/75R16 is a great tire choice, especially if you go E rated. 235/85R16 works with a lift and bump stop adjustment. Check out www.discoweb.org for their tech page on fitting that size tire.

Cheers,

Pete

It is a heavy load rating for towing or carrying more weight. Usually over 3000 pounds per tire in that size.

www.tirerack.com

This site has lots of good information on tires.

Can I use tires that do not have an E?

Yes. Whatever tire you choose will have a certain load rating. 245/75R16 are typically E rated, although you can find ones that are not.

Cheers,

Pete

By rating he means thenumber of plys. 4 ply, 6 ply, 10 ply, that is how thick the sidewall is. The thicker the sidewall the stronger the tire the more weight it can carry but you then loose ride quality.
