Default Tires..all 4 or just 1

I have a 04 disco with 255-55 on 18’s. The problem I am having is I developed a slight steering wheel vibration/shake in the past month, which is slowly getting worse. The shake only happens around 45mph. I took my car to discount tire thinking I may have slung a weight. Not the case. I was told my by them the front passenger tire was coming apart from the inside and the steel belt is coming apart. The technician showed me the obvious wear on one side of the tire. He also told me I could not put my spare on due to the fact my spare has too much tread and is slightly taller and will cause a transmission problem because of the all wheel drive. He stated I would need to by all 4 tires.

I guess my question would be. Do I really have to buy all 4 tires or can I just buy a new one.

Well first off you have a full time four wheel drive truck NOT a all wheel drive truck, there is a HUGE difference.

Yes you can put the spare tire on the truck, no it wont mess up the transmission.
If it were all wheel drive then yes it would because all wheel drive cars use clutchs, full time 4x4's use gears.
The clutchs on a AWD car would wear out, the bears will just think that you are turning a really long corner.

Now if you wanted to repalce the bad tire with one of the wrong size, then no, you could not do that.
But the inch or so size difference from the other tires and the spare wont make a difference.

I'm experiencing the exact thing. I've been searching and doing research on a good tire and like the NITTO brand that was posted as a sticky. Is this a good brand to buy? All the reviews I read made the tire out to be amazing.

The Nitto Terra Grappler 255-55r18 is my spare and the one im replacing the the stock goodyear with...its the best tire i found for the price. According to SPIKE there will be no problem as long as its the same size, i dont think the brand would matter.
