I agree totally. I think that the vast majority of U.S. Citizens ARE in the middle of the political spectrum, and forced to buy into one or the other political extreme. I don't know when I've seen a time when the political sides were more polarized against each other while the majority of citizens are saying "bag the politics and blaming others, and FIX our OIL DEPENDANCY PROBLEM NOW!" The whole Democrat and Republican systemhas for years been"out of touch".

Camdisco, have you still got gas available anywhere up your way? I think every station is shut down here in McDowell County, but I understand that there's one big station (Love's) on I-40 that's still got diesel fuel for now and a line of trucks up the interstate ramp to buy it. By the way, I didn't think diesel fuel had to be refined, so I wonder why it's not available atmost stations.

We have a few places that have got a shipment in, all the ingles markets have some and its going for $4.58 there, and one exxon got some and its going for $4.75. But thats it around here most places still have ropes around the pumps. I try to only use shell gas and none of them are getting any... I hope by the end of the week they will because thats about the time I will need to fill up again.

We are wondering the same thing.... Like I said earlier, almost all our gas comes from texas and that region so it was cut off for a few days while the hurricane came through, and for some reason everyone paniced and lined up at the pumps. And every stationwas running out and jacking up the prices because of that. Its just been a mess.

Yes it IS a mess, and my fear is that once the gas starts flowing again, people will rush the stations again causing more temporary outages, and the lines will bemassive until everything evens out. Sorry, I'm usually more of an optimist.

Cam, Drummer, either one of you know where to find fuel here in WNC? I am running a bit low. I also live in McDowell, Drummer but I have to travel to Asheville at least four days a week.

Just so eveyone knows...it was announced this morning on the news that oil has plummeted to $96 a barrel because the refineries in the Gulf were basically unaffected by Ike ...so with these two factors in place, why is everyone's gas price raising so high when it should be lowering??? Capitalism...it ain't perfect but it is what drives our economy. We buy, they sell. The only way that the price will ever fall low enough to get people to stop whining will be to altogether stop purchasing it...and that is not going to happen.

We have lots of oil just no way to turn it into fuel until the refineries
are back on line.
It would be nice if they could just turn on one switch but it does't work that
way,, they will have to wait for the work force to return, electric to get turned
back on.

We need to get the east and west coasts drilling so we don't have
all the eggs in one place.

And for people that don't like the prices, get refineries in other
inland states.
With everthing made from oil (plastic) wind and solar will not work by
theirselves.

Gas was up here from 35 cents to 50 cents.
Less than the rest of the US as we have it in our back yard.

I guess you've figured it out by now, but it looks like a few stations have gas now. I rode around town and it looked like QP and BP's pumpswere open. Probably more. Prices are ranging around 4 1/2 bucks.
