I'm actually eager for the compressed natural gas infrastructure to be put in place here in the states. CNG pumps are pretty common in Canada. That will definitely be a big step in reducing our dependence on oil. Right now millions of cubic feet of natural gas are being flaired off every year because there are no facilities here to handle it right now.

Thats been the biggest problem. People are doing just that and leaving NONE for people who actually need it right then. It would make since in a normal situation to dothat but right now in our case, anyone doing that should be ashamed. Driving less and carpoolingis the only solution right now.

 

Cam, what I mean is park the less MPG car and drive the other, not drive both.
It is to bad that people are hording gas but what do you expect a addict to do? Go cold turkey?
I am not trying to beat a dead horse, butwhat is happening to you guys will be happening to the whole country in 50 yrs if we dont reduce our accdiction to oil. Simple fact is that the oil will run out and then what? We all go cold turkey?
We just need to plan ahead, thats all. Itcant happen overnight but it needs to happen. And I'm not saying dont drive the Disco, just drive it smart.

 

I doubt gasoline engines will be the primary powerplant in 50 years. It'll be things like the chevy volt or LPG/CNG. there's just no way...the question is how high do gas prices have to get?

 

There is no shortage here in Dallas Tx Reg gas was down to $3.65 a gal.

Someone has made a shortage down the line to make money off of IKE.

All the Refineries will be running by weeks end they will have electric by then.

I know its not possible for some to have two cars but thats what I have done.
Its my Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde ,,one that is a diesel (38 to 50mpg)Vw
the Disco I 12 to 17 mpg.
I have to fill up my Vw every 3 weeks and go around 500 to 600 miles on a tank
in town,,,Now where is my Diesel Disco ????????

 

Around here it really doesn't matter two cars or one, when people freak out because somebody said "shortage" and run and fill up everything they have twice a week, the tankers can't keep up, and that is our problem in our area, but to make it worth their while, the stations are getting premium $$$ for the little they get to sell, ugh

 

With 30 gals of diesel I can go 8 weeks 15gals in car and 15 set aside.
or BIO-Diesel can off set that even more.
With 30 gals in my Disco its a week and half that why my Disco is setup
for off road.

 

Just for the record, my money's on hydrogen power in 50 years.

 

Yes but we will still have to get there.

It will be a interesting trip.
