Default Tools needed to change driveline fluids?

Hey guys (and gals) the time has come to get ready to change transfer case, transmission and differential fluids (2003 D2).

Poking around under the truck I think I recall that a couple of the plugs take a square head grub screw type of wrench. Anyone know if a standard rachet extension will fit properly in the square recess or is there a specific tool I need to get ahold of?

Thanks for the help,

-Keith

For the diffs and the t/case just use the end from your 1/2 ratchet wrench.
Fot the tranny an allen wrench and or open end wrench.
Are you changing the tranny filter, do you know how to service the tranny?
Make sure you use an 80/90W synthetic gear oil for the diffs and t/case, a total of 7 qts.
For the tranny 6 qts of Dextron and add a bottle of Lucas tranny additive if you want a happier tranny.
How about the other fluids, brakes, coolant and power steering, have you already done them?

Mike, thanks, as always, for the timely info.

Will be replacing the tranny filter when doing the tranny. I will be emptying the pan before I drop it though.

Thanks for the recomendation on the synthetic gear lube. I was wondering if I should give the syntheticsa try. I used synthetic grease for the first time when lubing the prop shafts. New fangled pink stuff (Mobil 1) but it does make it easier to see the fresh grease squeezing out of the u joints. I will be replacing the u joints and ball seal as soon as I get this other stuff done.

I did the brake fluidbut forgot about the power steering and the coolant. Have to add that to the list. I have a little over 51k on the truck now. I figure a little at a time and I'll get all the 60k service done by 60k.

Your truck came with synthetic gear oil from the factory.
Shout if you have any more questions.
