Tools for Oil Change on DI??
I am getting ready to do my first oil change on my Disco I and want to make sure I have everything I need. I am heading to AutoZone this afternoon to pick up some Mobil 1 10W 30 and a pan to catch the old oil, as well as some jack stands. I already have an OEM filter, purchased from Atlantic British, and a socket set that goes up to 19 MM. My plan is as follows:
1. Warm up the engine for a minute or two
2. Jack the front passenger side up and put in the jack stands
3. Open up the drain plug to let it drain for 10 - 15 minutes (have beer)
4. Remove old filter
5. Prime new filter and oil the gasket
6. Install new filter
7. Re-insert drain plug, flipping the crush washer around
8. Remove jack stands and lower the truck to the ground
9. Have beer
10. Re-fill the oil using 5 quarts, and then checking and adding additional oil as needed
11. Have beer
Did I miss anything? Do I need a filter wrench to remove the oil filter? Do I need a larger socket for the drain plug?
THANKS!!

umm... i just have the car on level ground and crawl underneath it with no jacks.
it takes LESS than 10 min for it to drain.
the oil filter is supposed to be tightened by hand but if the previous oil changer did it too much than it might be difficult to turn. make sure it is clean and oil free so u get a good grip.
other than that and the fact that I dont drink, your list is what i do. so drink an extra beer for me!

Thanks again for all of the help, I figured I would report back just for fun. All in all, it was a successful oil change. After running to the store to get the correct wrench for drain plug removal, I found the drain plug a challenge to remove. A few blasts of penetrating oil cleared that up quickly though and I was able to remove the plug. The only real mistake I made was that I didn't open the plug in the oil catcher all the way, so it overflowed a bit on to my driveway. I assume I will be able to clear this up with a pressure washer but am certainly open to suggestions for cleaning up the spill.
Everything else went smoothly, save a small drip on the driveway when I removed the filter. She's all refilled with some fresh synthetic and should be good to go!
Thanks again for the help!

Next time save some $$ and get a WIX 51515 for around $4.50. It's a higher capacity filter than the OEM as well.
Either don't start your engine before hand, or warm it up longer than a minute or two. I just plan my oil changes for after I get home from an errand when the engine is at operating temp.
