torque head bolts (cold)
After dumping copious amounts of oil and then coolant last week I'm replacing the head gaskets.
I'm about half way through tearing it down. Looks like the valley pan gasket was the culprit for the oil, it's gone at both front and back.
When I get the heads off and back from the machine shop I have a question about torquing them down.
It pretty cold here (14 degrees), the garage is pretty cold and after heating for a while I can get it to about 32 degrees.
So when it comes to torquing the heads down will the temperature be an issue?
I can work in the cold but don't want to screw up the heads and be doing this again in a few months.
Will a freezing block be an issue?
Thanks,
Mark
Yup, new head bolts.
I'm hoping the temp of the block won't make a difference. If it does I suppose I'll be renting a construction heater to get everything toasty :-)
I did mine in November with no heat and it was probably in the 30's in the garage. I've had no problems so far after a few thousand miles, so above freezing at leastit seems like you should be good.
