Good point, yes it should. Is there any mechanical resistance? Even if superlocked the mechanical unlock function overrides the superlock. I cannot imagine a scenario where the key would be limited in unlock travel without unlocking the vehicle.

Note, for superlocking, from the RAVE:
Superlocking
Superlocking only allows the doors to be locked from outside the vehicle. When
superlocked, the doors cannot be opened from inside the vehicle. Superlocking can be
initiated with two turns of the vehicle key in the driver’s door lock or the remote handset. In
the superlocked state the remote handset is used to unlock the doors. In the event of the
remote handset not being available, the vehicle key can be used in the driver's door lock to
enter an Emergency Key Access (EKA) code which will unlock the doors and disarm the
anti-theft alarm. Refer to the Workshop Manual Alarm System for EKA and door locking
Description and Operation.

Maro, were you able to get into your truck and get it started?

After your message I got inspired to give it one last try (on a balmy 5F morning, no less). I pried open the plastic shroud around the hood latch mechanism with a crowbar, and pushed the release lever with a screwdriver. The hood popped up, and the alarm went off, but magically, the key fob started working again! Still not sure why it wasn't working before -- perhaps the BCU went to "sleep" and triggering the alarm woke it up. The alarm LED on the dash was flashing rapidly, but was able to start the truck with the key.

I was this close to calling the junk yard and having the thing hauled away...

Okay. I'm glad that worked out for you. But next, I recommend you budget some time to diagnose the problem with the key not working in the door lock cylinder. It's important to not have only one way to unlock the truck, as you have learned.
