Got in my 2001 DII tonight, started it, and pressed the brake pedal down and heard and felt a clunk from below the shift stick - never heard/felt this before - seems to be doing it every time I'm in park and press the brake now - assume it has to do with the shift lock...? Advice? Will this worsen? What can I check? Do? Thanks!

only happens when it's running, in Park, but not when moving
no idiot lights are lit on the dash... but the ultra gauge is showing pending code 1668. maybe unrelated

any ideas?

thanks

Even if it does fail its real easy to manually operate... it just pushes in with your finger or tip of a screw driver. Its possible that its all gummed up... take a look at it, maybe a quick wipe with an pb blaster soaked q-tip on the pin will make it nice and smooth.

I keep a spare brake switch in my car just in case it fails on the road. About $45 from auto parts store and easy enough to replace.

How can this be normal if it just started happening?
