Where is the filter located on a 1997 Disco SE7 AJ

Very.

You need to remove a cross member and the y-pipe to drop the oil pan on the transmission.
Just drain the fluid and then refill with Dexron III.

You have to remove the cross member and loosen the "Y" pipe so you can drop the pan, but you have to do it.
