Tranny Trouble?
Hey all,
The past two days something weird has been happening to my 1999 D2. I have gotten into the truck to go to work, and have gone out on the highway only to find that the truck gets somewhat stuck in 3rd gear. This will only happen though when the truck is still cold and will go away completely once its warmed up (I must say it has been pretty cold in NJ the past few weeks and I do not live that far from the highway so the truck doesnt have that much time to really get hot). Anyway, it has never done this before and it doesnt seem to be a part of the normal increased rpm that is used to warm up the tranny because the other gears will shift normally. Does anyone have any ideas? I did do the tranny service about 20,000 miles ago but perhaps I am low on ATF? Thanks in advance.

Normal behavior for this and many other vehicles. Overdrive doesn't kick in until the engine is warmed up. it's perhaps mor noticeable in the rover since the engine is relatively high revving on the highway, even when overdrive is kicked in.

My transmission does strange things when its cold. Most likely just age, but if you want to be sure, change your fluid (dexron III ATF). The rover transmission is a very reliable and rugged transmission.
