Default Trans Fluid question

I'm changing my trans filter and doing a flush on the system and the book calles for dextron IID. All I can find is DextronIII of Dextron 4. Is this going to be any problem. I think its not going to matter but just asking.

Thanks
Walter

Dexron III will be fine.
I think the IID is the old fluid and the III is the next newest and the 4 is the newest yet, make sense?
So 3 will replace 2 and 4 will replace 3.
I am assuming you mean for a automatic transmission.
But if you want to know for 100% you could always call a dealer.

Yes. Originally it was just called Dexron, then came Dexron II, IIE,...then Dexron III. In 2006 GM came out with Dexron VI. All Dexron numbers are backwards compatible. You can use VI in applications that call for II or III, but not the other way around.

All dexrons are backwards compatible. Use the latest and greatest or one of the generic dexmercs like maxlife.
