Default transfer case

have a 95 disco 1 and just broke the front drive shaft! mechanic said ive been driving using front wheel drive only! he said i should be able to drive it in rear wheel drive but i cant. trasfer case lever is stuck in the hi position (toward the shifter) ive never had it in any other position. these are in all wheel drive and a hi and lo range right? with the front drive shaft out of the vehicle, i should be able to drive it using the rear wheels correct? he said it wont move. whats up with this? whats right and wrong and can someone please explain the positions of the transfer lever which is frozen. art

Default RE: transfer case

if everything is working as it was designed to, its impossible to drive in FWD only. push the transfer case lever to the left, you will lock it and youll be able to drive. a yellow light will illuminate in your dash if you did it right. when you put the front driveshaft back in, make sure to put the t-case back to the high position or you could damage the transfer case. does your mechanic specialize in land rovers? he doesnt seem to be that knowledgable if he does.

Take the front prop shaft off if you're going to drive it with CDL engaged for any distance.
