Default transfer case

So I need to put a new transfer case in my 1995 Discovery AT. Would a transfer case from a 1996 fit? I found oneon craigslist for375 bucks. Thanks for any help.

Per this site and their information, I would say no.

Thanks Mike. I don't know if you remember, but I'm the guy that bought my disco and found out the guy before me had been driving it all around with the diff lock engaged. Anyway...I just finished with the front drive. The front diff is still good. I replaced both front cv joints. Now I am going to embark into changing out the transfer case and I should be all good after that.

With the diff lock engaged only the rear wheels move, with the diff lock disengaged only the front wheels move...Before I replaced the CV joints only the front drive shaft moved.

Have you considered rebuilding it? Have you split it to see what items are worn? Might be able to do it cheaper (or as cheap) as buying an "also ran" considering shipping. I've rebuilt a couple (not Rover) andthey werereally a cinch. Alot fewercomponentsthan tranny's. Personally, I'd split it open before committing on buying a used one, just to see.

That's only an option if he has the time and another vehicle.
