Default Transfer Case Fill Plug

I mangled mine some while wrestling to get it off...why, oh why couldn't it just be a straight shot to get it out and not off-set enough to have to hunt for the right extension, wobble...anyways, is there somewhere I can order it from or is this a dealer only item as AB told me?

Just use a 1/2" ratchet wrench and if need be an extension or swivel and be done with it.

Yup, I got it off with a 1/2" wobble on a 3" 1/2" drive extension, but the fill plug got pretty chewed up...I was wondering where I could get a new replacement?

Rovers North can probably order one but I would just get it from the dealer if the cost were the same.

Good idea on Rovers North...called them up and they do have them in stock for ~$6 (dealer wanted $16)...in case anyone is curious, or has a need later, the part number is 608246.

I checked my transfer case fluid level last weekend, and used the serpentine belt rental tool while in the O'Reillys parking lot. It worked like it was made for the job! Since I was using it in the parking lot, no deposit necessary. (it helps that I worked there for 7 years though)

Did you change fluids in the Parking Lot?

No I didn't change fluid. I have had a seep from the transfer case inspection cover since I refilled with BG fluid 2 years ago, and just wanted to make sure I hadn't lost any significant amount. I took a bottle and the fluid pump with me just in case, but when I pulled the fill plug, fluid immediately began trickling down, so the level was good. It was just a peace of mind thing.
