Default Transfer case gasket

Hi guys,

I searched the forum but cant find a definite answer. I need to reseal my transfer case bottom cover as my seep has turned into a drip. What gasket/sealant should I use? I have read both RTV and "Right Stuff" do the job but I am curious to know if anyone has any experience with which one is better. Thanks in advance for the help.

RTV seems to work in the D1's, see D1 Transfer Case Fluid Change with Pictures - Land Rover Forums - Land Rover Enthusiast Forum for the write up that is in the tech sticky along with photos. I think I had to remove a small heat shield to get at one of the bolts. You'll want to dab the part of the threads of the bolts, they are threaded all the way through the lip of the case.

i used rtv grey. you have to remove the crossmember though, and i can guarantee you those bolts will strip/break. thats the worst part of the job.

I just removed two bottom covers from '95's yesterday, neither had any bolts strip or break.

You were correct CDM, the bolts were rusted and spun off when I tired to back them out. Thanks for the heads up.
