I use serpentine belt wrench, slides in between the drum and the t-case and works best I ever saw.... one handed too

OK I was not going to say it but, is it really that hard to figure out how to get to that plug? I did mine the first time as a newb and sure it took a few head scratching minutes wondering what LR was smoking but the only 1/2" drive extension I owned worked (and it was not a wobble ext). I do applaud the OP for getting up the gumption to make a tool but if you can get some 1/2" bar stock cut a 1.5" piece and use a 1/2" combo wrench it will do a similar job though his hex will give you better access.
