Transmission
On what basis do you say this? The HP24 transmission from the '03-'04 DIIs is virtually identical to the HP22 used in the "99-'02 trucks. Upgraded to mate with the higher horsepower of the 4.6, but "higher tolerances .. better uphill .. better pulling .." Where do you get this stuff? And then you can't even answer the OP's question! Get a life!
I slapped an HP24 into an 01 with very little fuss. I re-used the shafts that were on the 01 (now if the owner had changed them to an 03-04 setup = unsure). The transmission/TC mounts = where I had to tweak it a little. I did install a newer 03-04 Transmission ECU as well.
I've owned a lot of HP22 D2's and I personally have yet to have any sort of failure. The HP24 is just an updated HP22 that was improved in a few spots for the 4.6L engine. OEM Front Drive shafts don't care if it's an HP22 or HP24 as they'll die in the exact same fashion lol.
