Default Transmission issue, I searched no luck...

About two days ago I heard a faint sound from under the truck. It is a 94 D1 auto. It has gotten louder over the past two days. It sounded like I had a bolt come loose from the torque converter and was bouncing around the bell housing. After removing the inspection plate that was not the case. I have traced the rattle to the back of the transmission about where it attaches to the transfer case. I drained the tranny fluid and found metal shavings on the drain plug.

I am confuse as to what it could be. The sound is there when the tranny is in park or neutral or anything. I cannot come up with anything that would even be turning back there without the truck moving to make the rattle. There is no loss n power or difficulty in shifting so I am out of ideas. I have not taken it to a shop yet since I like to try to find out if it something simple first.

Any ideas of what the cause is or if this has happened to you please share your great knowledge with me. Thanks in advance!!

Rob

You are going to need to get this into a small tranny shop and let them listen to it. I would suggest you not drive it till you can have it checked.

Thanks Mike, I have decided to do just that. I have also located a replacement if needed. I have had relativiely minor issues ever since I bought it so I would like to keep it that way.
