Default Transmission shifting problem

I have a 2000 disco that is shifting sort of funny. I changed the transmission fluid, (case only.. looked and smelled fine). I checked the fluid again after shifting through all the gears, so I know I'm at the proper level. What happens is the transmission doesn't drop back into first gear when I come to a stop. This doesn't happen all the time but it does it every day. Once I rev the engine, it will drop into gear and take off. I was wondering if there was something I could test to solve this problem. Has anyone else had this problem before? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks everyone for your help!!!

How many miles on your truck?
Any warning lights on like the check engine light or mode lights?
Sounds like you have a valve hanging up in your valve body.

Hi mike, thanks for getting back to me. I changed that mass air flow sensor we talked about last week and that took care of all my codes and lights. Thanks for the help on that one!!! This shifting problem doesn't give me any codes or lights. The truck has 73000 miles on it. Is the valve body something I can service myself? Thanks so much!!

No, you don't want to get into that can of worms. When you serviced the tranny did you put any Lucas in with the ATF, if not you might want to, it can clean up those shifting problems most of the time.

Mike-
By Lucas do you mean the "Lucas Transmission Fix with ATF conditioner"?

Has anyone ran this stuff in their transmission for an extended period of time?

Thanks,
Piotr

Yes, I have for 3 years and my tranny shifts very well when it should.
It is like cheap insurance, $8 and some new ATF and there is one less thing to worry about on your truck.
