Tricky Diagnose.. Oil light at Idle
#11
Spyke.
Changed Oil sending Unit. Light went right back On. But:
I noticed that when coming to a stop .. RPMīs dropped from 750 to arround 700 or Less all of a sudden .. I had a Scan witch indicated the Idle Valve Failure. But I took the Oil Light as a diferent problem and a much more serious one.
I heard a faint Tick Tick ... witch was coming from a burned Magnecore Cable witch was not installed properly and burned so I borrowed one from another LR DISCO and replaced it.
Light is OFF since then. And RPMīs are constant at 750 at Idle now.
I dont have the PSI numbers on the Oil Pressure Test I did but Ill get the from my Shop today. and yes I have done 4 PSI Tests in diferent Shops.
I just want to Make Shure with you guys That this burned cable was causing the Idle Valve to send low RPM īs and cause the Oil Light to come On. Or should I continue Checking or what should I be aware of.
Spike I am Very Greatfull ... Thank You .. I have saved a lot $ from Your advice. You wouldnt believe the diagnose i have gotten from shops down Here. It is always good to know a little before you take your truck to a shop down here or you will be replacing the entire engine.

I think that you are fine.
Really low engine RPM can cause low oil pressure, the oil pump runs directly off of the engine, if the engine is running to slow then so is the oil pump.
May not be such a problem with a cold thick engine oil but once the oil gets hot and thins out this can happen.
Replace that one wire and call her good man.
Glad to help.

Oil Light
i would like to add a few points to this post. First the series 2 which is having this issue has a 2 wire switch and it feeds the gauge through the ECU. Earlier "uneffected" models had a simple ground system from gauge to switch. Regardless of the type, the oil light SHOULD NOT be on at idle, if it is, it is a potential PROBLEM and has to be rectified before driving the vehicle! We have A798107 that when checked initially on start up went up to 50+psi, so we replaced the switch. we did a serviceand road testedit and after a 5 minute drive the light was back on. We have since checked it 4 more times, the 1st time we had good pressure the next 3 times there was very low pressure at idle and only 15 at moderate raising of RPM. Clearly we have an internal problem so we are going to remove the pump for inspection. As many probably know, loss of oil pressure was common on the 3.9 4.0 engines, thisw as due to poor tolerances in the pump which allowed the chamber to drain out if the engine wasn't started frequently, I doubt this is the same issue but we'll let you all know.

Oil pressure warning light
I have written the sequence of our investigation and logged the full results on our web site as there is too much to print here. Go to www.bonnettoboot.com and click on the technical issues tab. I would appreciate feedback!
