I still get a waterfall sound every now and then but I gave up on it. I've bled and bled and bled but still can't get it gone.

 

possible you still have a small leak.

have you tried pressure testing?

 

no I haven't. I figured if I'm still getting it from the water pump failure.

waterfall sound is pretty much gone and I have heat just in time for summer.

This week I had Tricky Dick pee out of the overflow tank.

Tried bleeding the system again and noticed that pressure was building up on only one side.

I bit the bullet and took apart most of the coolant system and sprayed everything down with the garden hose. I then put the garden hose into the remaining hoses until water came out. Did this a couple of times for good measure.

Now for the WTF moment...

On the inlet side of the heater core - hose water flowed freely out of the outlet side. Then I put the hose on the outlet side and sprayed the water backwards....pressure would build up and very little water would come of the inlet side.

I then hit all the other hoses again and kept thinking why would the water flow freely in only one direction. Hit the inlet side with the hose again and free flow. Then I hit the outlet side with the hose and a bit more pressure. Finally the water was flowing in both directions freely. I also noticed what almost looked like calcium build up coming out of the out let side. Of course I went back for a third round of garden hose action on all the hoses just incase any of that when through the system.

I am waiting for a new top hose assembly from Lucky8 to show up, I figured by that time most of the hose water would be out of the system.

I will button Tricky Dick back up and see if the heater core being plugged was the issue or if the pressure of the water going backward through the heater core fed something up.

 

Dang...I would replace the heater core.

 

I hate heater core replacements. I've done them in too many vehicles and I can't imagine Land Rover being the manufacturer that finally decided to make it easy to replace.

 

I know I should look into replacing the heater core, however, I am thick headed and hoping my flush of the heater core solved the issue of it being blocked. My hoses will be showing up today and I will probably do another flush of the core to check the water flow in both directions. If it goes well, I will button Tricky Dick back up and give it a try.

If I have pressure issues again, then I will bite the bullet and do the heater core swap. I have not yet pulled the dash completely apart so who knows what treasures I will find in there.
