Default Troubles with the DII, No startup, M&S Flashing

HEy guys, it has been a while since i have visited, glad to see discomike now an administrator! I remember when i was the top poster here years back.

Unfortuantely, i am back here with problems... i tried starting the 2000 DII (at work) and it did not turn on, battery light and oil like had come on. Well after a few hours if waiting around i decided to try starting it again (with a jumper attatched) and it started right back up, so i thought hey it's only the battery...

Once i drove it home, i started turning it back on, no-go. The battery tries to turn it but nope, did not start. I gave it a few hours and tried starting it without a jumper and it worked fine! So now i am thinking let me change my oil just incase, so do that and try turning it on and off to let it run a few minutes and it didn't turn on.

Now today mourning i tried turning her on and she started, i decided ok.. possibly bad gas even though the chances of that is really low, so i decided to drive around a bit to burn as much as possible. No lights were on while i was driving. I noticed the after 15 minutes of driving and putting the car in reverse the M and S lights started flashing as well as making a loud noise when shifting D>R. I read a post on here and it talks about it being in "Limp mode", so again, possibly battery?

I wish i could take it over to autozone but i don't want to leave her there stranded if she does not start back up. I think i should unplug the battery and take it to autozone and get it checked out/recharged/replaced.

Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions are very appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Take it over, leave it running and have them check the battery/alternator, that is the only way you'll know for sure.
You need to do this soon, if the M&S stay on to long because of low voltage you will slip into limp mode and then is when it starts getting ugly.
Remember you need between 13.6 and 14.4 volts at 2999 RPM's.

On my 2000 Disco II I had all kinds of starting and electrical problems when I first got it. The alternator checked as bad and I changed it. The new one checked as bad too. Turns out the cable from the battery to the alternator was corroded and I fixed that. Actually I left the original cable where it was and added another battery cable over it to the alternator and everything was fixed, no problem for months.

ok so i took her to get the battery checked, turned out battery was bad. Bought a new one but still the same problem. It started the next day and gave me some codes as well as lights. The lights that were on included M and S, check engine soon, and the oil pan one. The codes that obd read included p0335 and p1884.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

335, your crank sensor is shot, when replaced the 1884 will go away on it's own.
