No worries mate, the heater will still work with the a/c on.
But try turning it to ECO (economy) mode on the HVAC system.

Thats just it even on economy it still blows cold. I let it sit for a while at operating temp, still no heat. my thermostat broke a while back and I recently blew off the coolant hose at the radiator. When refllling the system I had the bleeder scre open and I noticed alot of bubbles in the collant res.

Remove the coolant reservoir and with the bleed screw loose raise it as far as you can.
Then just keep the heater on hot and rev the engine to 2,000 rpm and hold it there for 5-10 min and have a friend keeping a eye on the reservoir to make sure it stays full.
Leave the cap off while doing this and the bleed screw loose, once air stops coming out of the bleed screw close it, let the engine return to idle and see if you have heat.

Is the thermostat on the right way?
If it is on wrong you wont get heat.
