Turn off Service Engine Light

Turn off Service Engine Light
The Service Engine Light on my 1998 Land Rover Discovery II came on at around 82,000 miles. I was told that is comes on around this time automatically for the oxygen sensor. I replaced the oxygen sensor, but do not know how to turn off the light. Does anyone know how I can turn off the light without having to take it to a Dealer and spend $90?

RE: Turn off Service Engine Light
Some of the larger auto parts store chains (Like Autozone, Pep Boys, etc.) have a service for free, or for a nominal charge, where they will hook up a scanner for engine related codes, and then can clear it for you. But this is only for engine management related codes. Their scanners cannot read suspension or body electric component codes.

RE: Turn off Service Engine Light
When the check engine light comes on it is for a fault code. If yourO2's needed to be changed, and at your mileage they are just about ready, you replace all 4 of them, not just one. The replacing of one is usually is one fails with low mileage on it, other wise you will have an imbalance of performance between engine banks. As has been mentioned some stores will clear codes for customers, some store however will not have a scanner that can do that function.
